Miyar Valley Trek Tour Details
In the lap of the North Western Himalayas lies this paradise. Miyar Valley one of the less explored regions of Himachal Pradesh is home to a variety of Flora & Fauna and mesmerizing landscapes, the valley blooms with variety of flowers in monsoon season hence is also called the “Valley Of Flowers” in Lahaul. The Landscape is unique and after a considerable climb one finds themselves in a long flat valley which extends for kilometers at a stretch. The area is visited by both trekkers and climbers with many virgin peaks to climb it’s a haven for rock and alpine climbers, the trek takes you towards the end of the valley to the Snout of Miyar Glacier on the base of Kang La pass which is an ancient trail joining Lahaul Valley with Zanskar, the traverse across the Kangla Pass will involve crossing almost 24 Km Long Glacier.
Many folklore and stories surrounds the valley and legends talk about stories related to Mahabharata, an abandoned village and tale of a Lama whose remains are in a Chortan on a hill top at the beginning of the trek. The Valley is one of the less explored regions and is a perfect for novice and avid trekkers alike.

Lahaul Valley recently opened to tourism on a larger level after the opening of Atal Tunnel which made access to the valley easier. The valley is one of the least explored region of Himachal and holds some of the most spectacular unexplored regions. Day 01: Arrival in ManaliReach Manali in the morning, reach your pre booked hotel in Manali. Latter in the day acclimatization walk. Reach Hotel in the evening for a trek briefing and orientation followed by Dinner. Overnight at Manali Hotel Meals: Dinner
Day 02: Manali – Khanjar (Drive)Distance – 140 Kms Time – 7 to 8 Hrs Altitude – 10,500 Feet AMSL After an early meal we start from Manali and drive towards Khanjar in Lahaul Valley. The drive is picturesque and takes us through newly opened Atal Tunnel into the Lahaul Valley, we follow Leh Manali Highway till Tandi (Confluence of Chandra & Bhaga Rivers) where Chenab or Chandrabhaga is formed. From here we take diversion towards Udaipur a small town famous for Trilokinath Temple. On the way visit Marikula Devi Temple which as per the folklore was created by a Single Tree that Bh?ma got for the temple and was created by Lord Vishawakarma in 24 Hrs. From here we enter Miyar Valley & follow the Miyar Nallah towards Khanjar the last village in the valley, on the way comes the Urgus Monastery, after visiting the monastery we head to Khanjar our Halt for the night. Here we stay at a campsite right at the edge of the village. In the evening we will be going for an acclimatization walk around the camp site followed by dinner and overnight at Khanjar Camps. Day 03: Khanjar to Thanpattan (Yolothang Camp site)Distance – 8 Kms Time – 5 to 6 Hours Altitude – 12,300 Feet AMSL We will have an early start today as we head towards our first camp along the trail we will be passing through the Khanjar village. A typical Lahauli Buddhist Village a Chortan at the village a prayer flags all around, major cash crops grown in the fields surrounding the village are Potato, Cauliflower & Green Peas along with that they also grow Herbs with Medicinal Qualities. As we climb up the first hill side the Valley ahead shows its expanse with a Chortan Marking a major landmark. The trails ascends and descends with major stretches being level walk. On the way we get a glimpse of Fabarang Pillar in a branching valley. We halt at the Chortan and pay respect to the Holy Lama whose remains are believed to be buried in the Chortan. As we enter Thanpattan from Tharang Campsite we get the first glimpse of Tharang III Peak. From here we cross the Tharang Nallah and head towards Yolothang Campsite. A beautiful grass meadow around a kilometre long and wide. We halt for the night here. Rest of the evening is free to explore the surroundings. Later in the evening Tea and snacks are served followed by dinner. Overnight at Yolothang Campsite. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 04: Thanpattan to ZardongDistance – 10 Kms Time – 6 to 7 Hrs Altitude – 12,800 Feet AMSL After breakfast we head out exploring the valley and head towards our next campsite at Zardong. The gradient is gradual and we are in a flat vast plain stretching as far as the eyes can see only to be met with base of the peaks surrounding the valley. Soon we get the glimpse of Tharang II and Tharang I as we venture deeper in the valley, in the front we get the view of Miyar Shivaling & Famous Castle Peak. A branching valley we cross near a lake called Gompa. After crossing several streams and nallahs we eventually reach the famous boulder zone which looks more like a mountain which was destroyed by brute face and all that remains are boulders strewn all over the place, There also is small cave dedicated to a Local Deity. We halt here for the night. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 05: Zardong – PhalphuDistance – 7 Kms Time – 4 to 5 Hrs Altitude – 13000 Feet AMSL We start early and head out further into the valley following the Miyar Nallah the landscape is captivating with numerous streams crisscrossing the valley we reach our campsite which actually is a dry lake bed surrounded by peaks. On the way we will be crossing a couple of streams coming straight from the glacier called Tadong. We cross the base of Castle Peak and other famous climbing peaks along the trail. Our Campsite is close to the snout of the glacier and has a glacial lake nearby. Rest of the day is to explore the surroundings and enjoy the Himalayan Vistas. Overnight at Phalphu. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 06: Phalphu – GompaWe retrace are path back towards the end of the valley and head back down towards Thanpattan. It’s a long walk back but it’s a gradual descent and we reach our campsite at Gompa in Thanpattan which is a few kilometres before the 1st Campsite in a few hours savouring the mesmerising beauty of Miyar Valley. The rest of the day is to explore the nature around. After dinner, overnight at Thanpattan Campsite. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 07: Thanpattan – Khanjar – ManaliThe last day of our trek marks a descent towards Khanjar the village from where we started our trek and board our transport. Taking us back to Manali, The drive through the Lahaul Valley along the Chandra Bhaga River takes us all the way to Atal Tunnel and eventually back to Manali. The trip ends with a drop at Manali.
